Speculation is mounting that Sony Ericsson is about to officially unveil the Xperia X2, after the manufacturer announced a mystery press conference in Singapore.
A press release for the event did not mention the Xperia X2 but claimed that attendees would be taken on a “journey" where "mystery, magic and entertainment fuse seamlessly with cutting-edge technology”.
Rumours of an impending official announcement regarding the new phone follow the appearance last month of leaked pictures online.
Specifications of the new mobile phone have yet to be confirmed, but it has been claimed that the successor to the Xperia X1 will feature an 8.1 megapixel camera capable of VGA video capture at 30fps, as well as a faster processor.
However, the phone’s USP is expected to be a function that allows owners of PS3 consoles to interact with their games machines wherever they are in the world.
Sony Ericsson’s other flagship handset launch for this year is the Satio, which is being sold on its advanced imaging capabilities.
Features of the Satio include a 12.1 megapixel camera with Xenon flash and a full touchscreen interface.
