Network giant Vodafone has announced it will be releasing a new branded smartphone aimed at the mass market.
Dubbed simply the Vodafone 553, the handset will feature a 2.8-inch rotatable touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, two-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM Radio and a microSD slot for up to 8GB of storage.
Although being billed as a budget handset, the 553 will come loaded with enhanced social networking and messaging capabilities through Facebook, Twitter, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk and Yahoo! Messenger apps installed out of the box.
It will also synergise the user’s various online contact lists together in one place and automatically sync and back them up on the Vodafone 360 website.
Patrick Chomet, group director of terminals at Vodafone, said: "We work hard to take the best, most relevant and exciting market trends and make them available at a great price to customers across the Vodafone footprint".
Pricing and release details of the kit are still unknown but Vodafone has confirmed it will be out by Christmas.
We don’t expect it to cost more than £100 as it will be going up against other budget blowers such as the Nokia 5230 from T-Mobile and the Android-powered Orange San Francisco launched earlier this month.
