Nokia N900 users will soon be able to run Meego on their phones, allowing them to flip between the new operating system and its current Maemo software.
News of the addition of the option to dual boot the two platforms with the arrival of the PR 1.3 update was broken by Harri Hakulinen, who is the project’s official mouthpiece.
It is hoped that the upgrade will encourage developers to work on apps for both platforms and enable them to test their wares across them.
A post on the Meego blog stated: “The PR 1.3 update is quite close now, and with that you can easily dual boot between Maemo and Meego on your N900.
"There is also a possibility of developing applications supporting both operating systems.”
The N900 is the first-ever device to get the Meego Linux-based operating system, which is expected to become standard across Nokia’s high-end mobiles in years to come.
