Tech fans could get their first official glimpse of the iPad 2 next week, rumours suggest, as Apple gears up to take on the slew of Android challengers vying for its position at the top of the tablet tree.
According to sources in the “accessories business” cited by MacNotes.de, our chums down in Cupertino are staging an event for devs next week to mark another unspecified announcement about iOS 4.3 . And they’ll be using the press call to lift the lid on the second-gen iPad as well, it’s being claimed.
The site’s spies also had a go at forecasting the spec sheet, positing that we’re in for a slate with a wholly new form factor that takes it cues from the iPod Touch 4G, as well as a more powerful Apple A5 processor instead of the A4 variety in the current-gen edition.
Other rumoured features include support for Near Field Communications, dual front and rear mounted snappers for video calling and microSD card storage – a first for an Apple device.
