Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and Arc owners can look forward to a minor OS bump to Android 2.3.3 next week, it has been confirmed, upping the flagship smarties’ appeal in the ‘Facebook phone’ stakes.
Both handsets feature Android 2.3.2 out of the box. The update to the newer version of Google’s operating system will introduce Sony’s rather smart Facebook Inside Experia features to the smartphones for the first time.
These include the option to share music tracks you like on Facebook directly from the handsets’ music player and automatic syncing of the Xperia and Facebook calendars to make it easier to keep on top of social engagements, with notifications landing on your homescreen even when it’s locked.
Users can also look forward to the ability to see their Facebook chums’ interests, news and ‘likes’ in the handsets’ phonebooks and the ability to tag and comment on photos without having to open another app.
According to Recombu, the update will be available this week. However, unless you got your phone sans contract, you’re likely to have to wait a little bit longer for it to clear your network’s testing process before the bump is available for your smartie.
Calum MacDougal, head of web service partnerships at Sony Ericsson said that the new features are intended to “enrich the experience” of using the social networking site on Xperia handsets and that additional Xperia Inside Facebook functions are planned in future.
Apparently, Sony Ericsson also plans to bring Xperia Facebook Inside to the recently unveiled lower end additions to the Xperia range, the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro this year.
