Sony Xperia Ray, Neo and Arc owners on O2 won’t getting an update to Android 4.0, the carrier has revealed.
O2 has ruled out a swizzy platform bump to the last-but-one iteration of Google’s operating system on the grounds that the software did not meet its standards. Alas, that means that users will be stranded on the now somewhat creaky-looking Gingerbread version.
The network states: "Unfortunately with the Ray, Arc and Neo our testing found that the software update affected the phone’s speed and performance.
“These issues were present on three separate versions of the Android 4.0 software we tested and are caused by the software having more advanced hardware requirements than previous versions.”
Ice Cream Sandwich would have brought a number of performance optimisations to the handsets, as well as some tasty new features. Not least among them is the much maligned Face Unlock security boost and resizable widgets for customising your homescreen.
