HTC One release date delayed for UK

HTC One release date delayed for UK

HTC has been forced to postponed the UK release of its 2013 flagship phone, as its bid to recover from 2012’s weak financial performance hits problems before the HTC One even hits store shelves.

The delay was initially announced by SIM free retailer Clove, which planned to start selling the handset from March 15th but has since been “advised officially by HTC that the UK launch date has been put back to March 29th”.

Clove stated: 'We apologise for this delay, but you will appreciate that this is out of our control.

“We hope to ship all back orders as soon as the stock arrives and will update you as soon as we can with further information.”

HTC has acknowledged the delay in a statement to Android Central, but has yet to confirm the reason for the move.

However, it’s likely to be related to reports that the phone-manufacturer has undershot the target figure of One phones it expected to have in stores at launch by as much as 80 per cent.

The shortfall is being linked to purported problems with the compact camera module and voice coil motor that feature in the One’s so-called UltraPixel camera.

HTC’s difficulties come hard on the heels of a 90 per cent drop in fourth-quarter profits for 2013, as well as atrophying market and mindshare in the face of the huge success of Samsung’s Galaxy range and Apple’s iPhone.
