Integra Telecom has hit Google with accusations that its Google Nexus One smartphone is in breach of trademarks owned by the telecommunications firm, which has its own Nexus-branded product.
The US Patent and Trademark Office has been called in to investigate whether Google will be required to rebrand the Nexus One under a different name in America.
The UK version of the Nexus One could retain its title, as Integra Telecom does not hold the rights to the name on our shores.
Google has considerable financial and legal clout, so it could fight to retain the Nexus One's name and some bloggers believe that it is probably in the process of bargaining with Integra to come to an agreement.
The search giant has stated that it will "continue to claim rights to the Nexus One trademark in the US".
