Owners of Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have taken to official discussion boards to complain that their devices are overheating and suffering from low battery life following the installation of a new security patch.

February’s Android 8.1 security update appears to have had unintended consequences, leaving Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users furious.

One user claimed his battery life had been hampered by as much as 30%, while the device itself heated up to a dangerously high 45ºC.

Although Google support staff suggested it was a hardware issue, other users have since responded by saying they have had the same problems following the installation of the new software.

Users say reformatting and factory resetting their phones has not solved the issue.

This latest bug is just the latest in a long line of issues that have plagued the top–end Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL since launch. Users complained of a constant clicking noise from the handset’s microphone, with others bemoaning the muted colours of the phone’s screen.
