The recently unveiled Nokia C Series phones are soon to be joined by the C2, which will allegedly sport a split QWERTY keypad accessible via an interesting flip design.

Leaked documents show the Nokia C2's display rotating sideways to reveal the second half of a QWERTY keypad, with a portion on display at all times for standard dialling and interaction.

The Nokia C2 is going to be a low end messaging phone, but this quirky design might allow it to appeal to a broader demographic and full QWERTY mobiles are all the rage at the moment.

Although the phone's camera will only have a two megapixel sensor, the optics are provided by Carl Zeiss, so the low-resolution images will at least look clean.

The handset could come with a touchscreen interface, although the likelihood of it entering the market at a low price point could counter this.

The leaked images, which were picked up by Ciao Mondo, might well be phony, but Nokia is not afraid of creating interesting designs.

At the moment, the C2 is still being prepped for a launch at some point in 2010, although precisely when is still unknown.

Crazy bit of kit. But, you know what? A bit of outside-the-box thinking might be just what Nokia needs.

There's quirky. And then there's downright unsaleable. This is the latter.
