Nokia’s latest Lumia standard-bearer features the latest 8.1 version of Microsoft’s Windows Phone software, bringing with it one-swipe access to key functions with Action Centre (think: Control Centre from iOS 7) and a redesigned start screen.

A 20-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and ZEISS optics is also on board, as is 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 32GB of internal storage, a five-inch HD 1080p screen and 4G LTE connectivity.

So what’s the deal? Is it just another Lumia smartphone? Or is there more to it? Smartphone sage Rob Kerr went hands-on at this week’s launch event to find out.
