The much-anticipated Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, or as it sometimes known the Tube, handset is to be released in the UK on January 23rd, it has been confirmed.
Nokia had originally named a release date of August last year and a subsequent street date of October before both dates were moved.
The handset is widely touted as Nokia’s challenge to the multi-million selling iPhone and incorporates a touchscreen operating system, which can be manipulated by fingertips or with the plectrum and stylus provided.
Other features of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic include large 3.2inch, 640 x 360 display, 81MB of internal memory and the scope to boost this with the 8GB microSD card that is packaged with the phone.
It also incorporates a dedicated media bar for users to gain access to multi-media applications, a 3.2 megapixel camera, built-in speakers with surround sound and 35 hours of music playback.
Jo Harlow, vice president of Nokia, said: "With the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, we set out to connect people through the one thing we all feel a universal connection to – music.
“The way in which people enjoy music is different around the world. With that in mind, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic gives people the freedom to experience music they love in the way they prefer."
Networks set to offer the phone are Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2 and Virgin Mobile.
