Orange has a launched a cut-price smartphone for under £50, making it the cheapest touchscreen mobile phone on the market.
The Samsung Vegas is home to a 2.4 inch touchscreen and is priced at £48.50 when bought along with an Orange top up voucher for £10.
Other features of the Vegas phone include a 1.3 megapixel camera, a secondary VGA camera, internet browser and a microSD card slot to allow users to boost the handset’s storage capacity.
Also onboard is a music player, which is compatible with all major file storage formats, an FM radio and icons to allow for easy access to a host of social networking sites, including Facebook, Myspace and Bebo.
Cheap mobile phone deals are expected to become more and more popular during 2009, as consumers increasingly look to cut their outgoings in the face of the credit crunch.
The appearance of the Vegas is expected to be a harbinger for a range of cheaper touchscreen phone this year, as the technology spreads from high-end handsets such as the iPhone and T-Mobile G1 to their cheaper counterparts.
