The Palm Pre smartphone is expected to land on UK networks next month, after its US carrier named June 6th as its official US release date.
The US launch date for the Pre was confirmed in a release from Sprint, which is to offer the handset for $199 (£128) on two-year contracts. A UK launch is expected to follow shortly afterwards.
Reaching stores in June should give the handset at a substantial head start over the third edition of the iPhone, the existence of which has yet to even be confirmed by Apple.
Analysts have posited that Palm’s future could depend on the success of the Pre, after the company recently suffered substantial loss of market share to rivals.
This was reflected in Palm’s latest financial reports which showed a 42 per cent fall in unit sales.
Features of the Pre include a 3.1-inch touchscreen, a slide-out Qwerty keypad, Wi-Fi and GPS support and a 3.1 megapixel camera.
