Palm Pre handsets could be in short supply, the chief executive of its US carrier Sprint has warned.
Earlier this week, Sprint confirmed that the much-touted Pre will go on sale across the US in June.
The news sparked conjecture that the phone’s UK release will follow a matter of weeks later.
However, in an interview with the Reuters news agency Dan Hessenotes of Sprint has suggested that current stock levels may not even be sufficient to fulfill demand in the US.
He said: "We think we are going to have shortages for a while. We won't be able to keep up with demand for the device in the early period of time."
The strong demand for Palm’s new flagship PDA among UK mobile phone enthusiasts was highlighted in a recent consumer poll conducted by the Daily Mirror.
Of those surveyed, 83 per cent named the Palm Pre as the phone they most coveted this year.
This compared with just 12 per cent of participants who want to own the third edition of the iPhone.
