Consumers can expect a rash of projector mobile phones by the end of the year, reports suggest, as more and more manufacturers confirm their backing for the technology.
Samsung is already known to be planning a projector mobile phone in the form of the Samsung i7410 pico, which was unveiled to the public at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
According to a report from Taiwanese technology site DigiTimes, it now appears that rival devices are also in development from Nokia and Apple.
The secret plans were disclosed to the news provider by an unnamed source said to be “close to the handset manufacturers”.
The source also claimed that the new mobiles will employ a specially developed pico projector from Foxlink – a subsidiary of Foxconn, which is responsible for building the Apple iPhone 3G S.
Pico technology allows phone owners to project movies onto flat surfaces and promises to bring an end to the days of viewing movies on tiny mobile phone screens.
