According to Tech Radar, the 5800 XpressMusic has also performed well for the Finnish phone giants, with the two smartphones racking up a combined total of 10 million sales over the last 10 months.

Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, chief executive officer of Nokia, said: "We have a unique position in the smartphone market. Nokia is the undisputed leading player in the smartphones space."

News of developments comes as Nokia is gearing up for a host of new mobile phone launches in the second half of this year.

These include the powerful smartphone the Nokia N900, the N97 Mini and the X6, which has garnered plaudits from technology sites and bloggers for its radical, cutting-edge design.
