The HTC Desire and its smaller sibling the Wildfire are set to get an Android 2.2 update in September, provided that they are affiliated with network provider Virgin Media.
Most UK operators have given vague launch plans for Android 2.2 on the Taiwanese firm's most popular mobiles, but now Virgin Media has made a slightly firmer commitment than most via Twitter.
The network Tweeted: "HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire - great news, we're expecting to release OTA updates to 2.2 (Froyo) early Sep :)."
Most of the attention surrounding the Android 2.2 update is focused on improvements to the speed of the Desire, but it will certainly be interesting to see whether the more modestly powered Wildfire will also feel faster.
