HTC officially announced the new Desire HD and Desire Z handsets at a London press call yesterday but did not reveal release dates or prices. Now it appears they have already been priced and dated by an online retailer.
According to Tech Watch, retailer Mobilefun.co.uk has put the Desire HD up as a SIM free option for £460 with a release date of October 8th. The Desire Z is priced slightly less at £430 and also coming out the same day. Amazon UK had previously leaked the Desire HD back in August at a £415 price point.
The Desire HD is a follow-up to the hugely popular Desire. It sports a massive 4.3-inch AMOLED panel, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and an eight-megapixel camera with dual flash, face detection and HD recording capabilities. In essence it is exactly the same kit as the Evo 4G released across the pond, minus the 4G functionality.
The Desire Z is a slightly more mid-range kit, featuring a 3.7-inch hinged display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 800MHz processor and a five-megapixel snapper with flash and HD video recording skills.
For only £30 less than the Desire HD, it’s safe to assume that HTC is counting on the Desire Z’s more “thumb friendly” keyboard and compact design as the differentiating features for prospective buyers.
