Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7 smartphones won’t arrive for at least another five weeks, game devs Rovio have confirmed.
The casual gaming phenom has been a massive hit on the iPhone, Android and on Nokia Symbian 3 devices and has crossed over so convincingly to the mass market that a line of merchandise is expected to be among the biggest selling toys this Christmas.
However, thus far owners of Windows Phone 7 handsets have been shut out of the party. And Rovio has revealed that the situation won’t be changing anytime soon.
Responding to a Tweet from a fan, the games maker has disclosed that WP7 gamers “will not [get the game] this year”, explaining that the delay is because it “takes a lot of work to do WP7”.
However, things are looking a lot brighter for Nokia N8 and C7 owners. Rovio has pledged to deliver an update for the Symbian 3 edition of Angry Birds in December.
Next month will also see a simultaneous cross-platform release of the Christmas edition on Android, Nokia’s smartphone platform and the iPhone.
