A fresh leak has given further credence to the all-but-confirmed presence of a front-facing camera in Apple’s upcoming iPad 2.
The hotly anticipated spec which was inexplicably left out in the original iPad, despite the Cupertino giant making a big fuss out of its FaceTime video calling service, now looks set to make the cut in the iPad successor. That is, if leaked snaps of what appears to be a screen protector for the mooted tablet is anything to go by.
Unearthed by 9 to 5 Mac, the only distinct feature of the transparent foil giving away the presence of a webcam is an extra hole on the opposite end of where the home button is, i.e. at the very top and bang smack in the middle.
Although it doesn’t tell us if there will be a rear-mounted camera too, it’s certainly not as desirable as the former. But with rival tablets sporting both front and rear snappers, here's hoping Apple will see reason and give us both.
The iPad 2 is rumoured to launch sometime next month. Watch this space for more details as we get them.
