Digimon-esque Angry Birds themed interactive pets could be on the way to market, a cryptic tweet from devs Rovio suggests.
Ever since Angry Birds became the casual gaming phenom du jour, Rovio has been savvy in leveraging the power of its brand. Not least in the shape of some cutesy plushes and a rather marvellous old-skool board game courtesy of toy giant Mattel.
And the deluge of merch isn’t stopping any time soon. Only this time it looks like the next must-have tie-in will be some Tamagotchi-style electropets. If Rovio’s tweet is to be believed, that is.
In response to a suggestion from a follower that the games maker teams up with Bandai Japan for “Digimon-like Angry Birds virtual pets”, Rovio hinted that it “might have some similar plans" - suggesting that virtual pets, or something very much like them, could already be in production.
News of all things Angry Birds comes as the Easter themed update for the Seasons iteration is set to drop. It’s not yet clear what new gameplay features the update will bring to the series, but Rovio expects to make it available in the next two weeks.
