The next-gen iPad will be 3D capable and will not require glasses to get the effect, an entertainment insider claims.
According to an unnamed Hollywood type cited by RCR Wireless, the third iPad is a “dead cert” to sport the feature – despite the fact that predictions that 3D is the next big thing in movies have recently seemed somewhat wide of the mark.
The source claims that the device will incorporate a “projection system capable of allowing multiple users to simultaneously view 3D images without wearing special glasses” and that studios are currently working overtime to ensure there’s a ready supply of 3D content available at launch.
News of Apple’s plans for the slate comes amid a welter of other rumours about the device’s display.
Speculation is currently mounting that this time around Cupertino could be prepping a slimmed down version with a six inch screen and that e-ink tech could also be on board to improve its credentials as an e-reader.
It’s also being claimed that Apple could break cover with the iPad 3 later this year, in a bid to see off challenges from rival Android powered tablets.
