Nokia X: Nokia Normandy Android phone named and detailed

The Nokia Normandy, the Espoo company’s first ever Android device, looks set to be called the Nokia X on its official launch. That’s according to the ever reliable @evleaks Twitter feed, which has posted a whole host of details about the handset.

Word is it’ll come loaded with a dual–core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, with 512MB RAM and 4GB off storage space, which can be boosted by microSD. Dual SIM access completes the picture.

If those specs seems a touch on the light side, remember the Nokia X is aimed squarely at emerging markets, not at spec–focused customers in Europe and the US.

Using a so–called forked version of Google Android 4.4, it’ll apparently serve up apps through Nokia’s own online emporium, as well as Google Play.

The inclusion of the latter will be a boon for those in developing countries who’ve been unable to access a wide range of apps on Nokia’s Asha range.

It’s believed that Nokia will rush the launch of the handset, having it primed for Mobile World Congress. It’s unclear as yet whether Microsoft will stop the phone’s release if it completes its takeover of Nokia’s device business prior to February 24th.
