Google has confirmed that it will launch a series of new emoji on its own-branded Nexus smartphones and tablets next week.
It’s all part of Google using the updated Unicode 8.0 standard, which Apple adopted with iOS 9.1. That means Nexus owners will be able to tweet, text and email emojis ranging from 'taco' to 'avocado'.
Of course beyond Nexus phones, it’s all down to separate manufacturers to roll out the updated emojis to their Android phones. And with basic software updates taking months for some to push out, it could be a while before Samsung, LG and Sony phone-owners join the party.
Google has also promised there will be other new treats in store when the rollout begins next week but that it ‘doesn’t want to ruin the surprise.’
