EE aims for 95% 4G coverage by 2020

Network - EE

EE has announced plans to boost its 4G coverage from 60% of UK to 95%, with the aim of eradicating ‘notspots’, places where mobiles do not get reception, by 2020.

It says it will achieve this by building 750 new masts and sites.

EE has also announced that its 4G service now works in Shetland and the Isles of Scilly, thanks to the help of BT and its fibre broadband links.

The plan is part of a wider strategy by EE to boost its service as its merger with BT edges closer to completion.

This will see EE handle 100% of its customer service calls in the UK and Ireland by the end of 2016.

EE Pay Monthly customers will have all their calls handled by UK staff by the end of June, with Pay As You Go and Home customers getting exclusive access to UK–based call centres by the end of the year.

The plan to fully ‘onshore’ all of its customer roles comes after the network made moves to bring its entire operation back to the British Isles in 2014.

It says the decision has led to a 50% boost in customer satisfaction and a cut in the number of complaints.

The move will also create 600 new jobs in Plymouth, South Wales and Tyneside.
