Company history

Tooway Satellite Communications is one of the communications brands owned by Satellite Solutions Worldwide Ltd and is now of Europe's largest satellite broadband providers.

Formed just over 3 years ago, Tooway and Satellite Solution's Management team have over 60 years experience in wireless communications and logistics, and Satellite Solutions is now the fastest growing company of its type in Europe.

As one of only three Distributors of Skylogic's "Tooway" domestic satellite broadband solution, Tooway is setting about bridging the digital divide for homes and small businesses across the UK.

Tooway's initial Homenet offering was replaced by its second generation service in June 2011. This offers improved maximum download and upload speeds to 10Mb and 4MB respectively.

Customer service

Tooway Broadband operates a dedicated customer support service staffed by skilled employees with particular awareness of the issues particular to satellite broadband. Both the technical support and customer support lines are open between 8am-6pm every day and cost 5p per minute from landlines.

Alternatively, for maximum convenience and to save time on phone calls, customers have the option of emailing the support team or raising a trouble ticket. This is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

The company’s website also includes a helpful customer section. This includes a glossary of terms to explain the technical jargon relating to satellite broadband technology as well as answers to frequently asked questions about its service.

The site also allows subscribers to access a full customer portal, which enables them to check their account information, pay their bills and get the benefit of the Tooway broadband knowledge base. Tools are also available for checking data consumption and customers' fair access policy status.

Furthermore, in a sign of the telecoms firm’s confidence in its products, customers are invited to its offices in Weston-on-the-Green where they can trail its services before committing to a purchase.

Equipment

Tooway's satellite broadband products use a small satellite dish with a corresponding set-top-box similar to satellite TV.

This advanced piece of equipment is easy and cheap to install, with all Tooway packages including a full set to instructions and DVD to facilitate the process. Alternatively, a turn-key installation service is available anywhere in Europe.

Customers can can expect a full download speed of up to 10.2Mb and upload speed of 4.1Mb with Tooway's premium service. Headline download and uploads of 6Mb and 1Mb are available with the provider's entry-level product for £24.99 per month.

Software features

The main draw of Tooway’s superb satellite broadband is the fact that it enables you to get a broadband connection wherever you are in the world no matter how far you may be from conventional networks. Just as impressive are the connection speeds the provider offers, with file transfer speeds up to 184 times faster than dial-up and up to seven times faster than many ADSL connections.

The company’s packages, however, currently do not include the anti-virus, anti-spam, firewalls and online storage space that you might expect to be features of standard broadband products.

Email features

Tooway's deals still provide subscribers with a UK IP address and offer full webmail support for the likes of Gmail, MSN, Yahoo and Hotmail. The firm will also recommend a partner company for customers to provide a SMTP service for sending emails, if this is required.
