iPhone 6S problems: 5 common glitches and how to fix them

iPhone 6S problems: 5 common glitches and how to fix them

The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are two of the best phones ever. But they're not perfect.

Users have taken to forums to complain of a range of ailments, from overheating issues to 3D Touch not working as advertised.

While they're more niggles than serious problems like bendgate or antennagate, they're still extremely annoying, especially when you've just spent hundreds on a new phone.

Thankfully, most of these issues have a simple solution. So if your new toy is playing up, read on and you might be able to fix it without a trip to the Genius Bar.

1 Overheating

According to Reddit users, the iPhone 6S has hit temperatures as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

That was thought to be down the camera, as, on launching the camera app, some users saw a message telling them the flash had been disabled. It added that the handset "needs to cool down before you can use the flash".

However, this message also showed up when the camera hadn't been in use. So it's anyone's guess.

The solution is simple enough. Putting the phone to sleep and leaving it to rest for a few minutes should let it cool down. Not ideal, but at the moment it's the only way around it.

2 Hot home button

The home button is also heating up something rotten.

Again, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this one, but leaving it alone to gather its thoughts should let it cool down.

3 Randomly switching off

Some users who report the hot home button problem also say their handsets have started randomly powering down, despite having plenty of battery life left. Worse, they won't switch back on.

According to user DWadeC who had this problem, Apple advise holding down the power and home buttons to perform a hard reset. The handset should switch back on after about 10 seconds.

4 Speaker issues

Equally worrying is an issue with the speaker. Those affected say their phones' speakers distort music and give "super loud" notification sounds. They suspect the speaker may be blown.

The handset also behaves strangely with the Phone app, making phone calls and ringtones come through the wrong speaker and at the wrong volume.

This could be a hardware issue on specific iPhones. If so, any software updates by Apple won't fix it. If you're having this issue, we advise reporting the problem to Apple.

5 3D Touch not working

3D Touch is one of the main selling points of the new iPhone. It offers a new way to use the phone, letting you 'peek' and 'pop' into messages and links, making for much slicker operation. When it works, that is.

Some users have reported that Safari won't open web links with a normal tap. Which would make it a lot less slick. To open said links, you'll have to perform a deep tap.

However, this one is fixed relatively easily. Hold the sleep/wake and home button at the same time, and the phone will perform a hard reset. That should make 3D Touch work normally again.

Apple has already released a couple of updates to iOS 9 to fix a lot of bugs. We're sure it will release more fixes over the coming weeks.

If these or any other issues persist, we'd advise contacting Apple.
