BT and Sky have impressed Broadband Genie, which recently produced a report into the customer support and technical advice offered by various broadband providers.
Reviewing the services offered by the UK's big six broadband ISPs (BT, Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Tiscali and Orange), the broadband comparison site picked out BT and Sky as offering an easy way for subscribers to get in touch.
While Sky offered customers not wishing to be diverted to an Indian call centre the opportunity to pay local prices to speak to a customer support representative in the UK, BT went one better with free British-based customer support 24/7.
"There were marked differences between all the providers that could make all the difference to a consumer," said Broadband Genie editor Chris Marling.
"It just goes to show how important it is to do some research before committing to a potentially lengthy contract."
For the purposes of the investigation, Broadband Genie staff posed as broadband customer who was preparing to switch provider after having a "bad experience" with another ISP.
