Consumers in east Lancashire are set to reap the benefits of faster broadband speeds as BT plots a network upgrade in the area.
Accrington and other surrounding mill towns will be hooked up to the internet service provider's (ISP's) next-generation broadband network over the coming year.
Some 40,000 households and businesses will be able to enjoy faster download and upload speeds as a result of the infrastructure investment, reports the Bolton News.
BT Regional Director Mike Blackburn commented: "This latest investment in super-fast broadband is great news for many homes and businesses in the region. Fibre broadband has the power to revolutionise the way we use the internet.
"It has huge implications for the way we live, learn and do business, with massive opportunities for entertainment, education and entrepreneurs."
BT, which allows rival ISPs to provide unbundled broadband deals over its network, is currently investing £2.5 billion preparing the UK for next-generation services.
