Thousands of home phone and broadband consumers have lost service access after a BT telephone exchange was hit by the effects of both fire and flood.
The West End exchange in central London was damaged by water seeping through from a neighbouring premises, before a fire broke out on-site.
BT said it was working on resolving the technical issues caused by the events, but this would prove to be a "complex" operation.
"A number of customers in central London are currently experiencing a loss of service," the internet service provider stated.
"Following clearance from the fire brigade, BT's engineers are on site and working around the clock to repair the damage and restore service as quickly as possible."
Back in October, BT customers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far north of England were hit by broadband downtime following a network fault.
