BT increased its broadband customer base during the second quarter of 2012, it has been revealed.

The broadband provider added another 85,000 subscribers between April and June, however this was down on the 136,000 net acquisitions between January and March.

As such, BT now has a total of 6,365,000 broadband customers in the UK.

The firm also added 21,000 new BT Vision subscribers during Q2 2012, slightly down on the 28,000 gained during the first quarter of the year.

This took the total to 728,000 on-demand television subscribers,

Ian Livingston, BTs Chief Executive, said the company had delivered another quarter of profit growth and the 11th consecutive quarter of double-digit earnings per share growth.

"There were good performances in BT Retail, BT Wholesale and Openreach while BT Global Services was impacted by the tough conditions in Europe and the financial services sector," he stated.

"Our financial performance allows us to keep investing for the future."
