The vast majority of UK households and businesses are now able to take advantage of BT's 20Mb Wholesale Broadband Connect platform, it has been reported.
According to ISPreview.co.uk, 85 per cent of UK premises now have access to the firm's advanced copper network, allowing them to take advantage of high-speed broadband.
This represents a five percentage point increase on the 80 per cent coverage reported by BT in its March 2012 enablement update.
By spring 2013, the broadband provider hopes to have achieved coverage of 90 per cent of UK homes and businesses - some 22.5 million in total.
"Exchanges serving around 85 per cent of UK homes and businesses are now enabled for Wholesale Broadband Connect advanced copper services offering an up to 20Mb broadband service with many additional benefits," a BT statement read.
The firm is aiming to deliver super-fast broadband - offering download speeds of at least 25Mb - by 2015.
BT is also hoping to achieve 90 per cent fibre broadband coverage by 2017, in a bid to improve the broadband services accessible to UK consumers.
