Those operating a mobile speed camera in Ashton-in-Makerfield have come in for criticism because their van was apparently parked in an illegal place.
Local Tony Riley claimed that the vehicle, because it was parked on the pavement, could have been "breaking the law", reports the Wigan Evening Post.
Project Manager at the Greater Manchester Casualty Reduction Partnership Mike Downes stated that operators of the devices usually have the green light from those above them.
"I must point out that the technicians are performing their role with the full authority of the Chief Constable," he told the publication.
And a spokesman for the road policing unit at the council claimed that a number of vehicles are exempt from rules in certain situations. He added the obstruction of the car in this situation has to be proved.
In related news, youngsters in Scotland were recently treated to a new road safety event, the Junior Road Safety Officer conference in Inverness, something that may in turn make them more aware, improving future car insurance premiums.
