Apple has taken action to prevent Palm Pre owners from syncing their mobile phones with iTunes.
Previously a loophole in iTunes enabled users of Palm’s smartphone to transfer their playlists and songs to their handset.
However, as had been widely anticipated this has now been closed by Apple in the latest update to its music software iTunes 8.2.1.
A statement from the Cupertino-based iPhone 3G S manufacturer said that the fix “disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre."
Since launching in the US in June, the Pre has performed exceptionally well for the PDA maker and is regarded by many as having saved the company from impending obsolescence in the face of push email-enabled BlackBerry mobiles.
A UK release date has yet to be announced by carrier O2, but the phone is expected to go on sale in time for Christmas.
