In the past we’ve seen genuinely offensive apps like BabyShaker slip through the censors before being hastily withdrawn after a wave of negative publicity. Then, much more perplexingly, we saw soft porn approved wholeheartedly in the form of the Hottest Girls app.
But the company’s latest decision is perhaps the oddest yet. This week, it approved a dictionary called Ninjawords but then slapped a 17+ certificate on it. The reason? Well like any dictionary worth of the name, it contained the odd swearword. And this alone has seen it classified by the store keepers as a veritable lexicon of lewdness.
So let’s get this straight, shall we Apple approval types? Pornography is OK. And infanticide? Well, that’s all just a bit of a laugh between friends, it would appear. Meanwhile, a bit of harmless salty language is likely to leave society quaking and convulsing from shock. Somewhat ironically, given the subject matter, for once we're lost for words.
