Suggestions that an iPlayer app for the iPhone is being readied for imminent release have been dismissed by a BBC blogger.
Earlier this week reports surfaced that a dedicated app for the on-demand TV service was on the way that offered interactive features, as well as the chance to download and stream the broadcaster’s programming.
The speculation was based on images in a BBC iPlayer press pack which showed Radio 1 presenter Chris Moyles and appeared to include a function to let users message radio shows directly from their handset.
However, in an interview with ipodnn.com Nick Reynolds of the BBC revealed that the photos were in fact old mock-ups and should not be taken as an indication that owners of Apple mobiles can expect an app any time soon.
Recent figures suggest that an iPlayer app is likely to enjoy massive take-up among iPhone owners.
Data from the BBC showed that iPhone and iPod Touch owners made up seven per cent of total requests for programming during October.
