Statistics show that two of Apple's flagship gadgets, the iPhone and the iPod touch, are the most popular among people shopping online this Christmas.
Consumer data site Experian Hitwise compiled the data taken from search engines in order to come up with a list of the most sought-after gadgets and gizmos. Overall, mobile phones are still the best-sellers, outranking computer games and toys.
A spokesperson for Experian Hitwise indicated that there was a notable shift towards online shopping this year, with most customers seeking bargain prices on the internet rather than heading to the high street.
The firm used the searches carried out in the first week of December, as this is typically the busiest time for online shopping in the run-up to Christmas and retailers use the Experian data to predict which products will be the most popular.
It is the first year in recent times that the Nintendo Wii has not topped the list, reflecting the increasing prominence of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
