Apple does not release a new app of its own creation very often and MobileMe is one such piece of software, allowing iPhone and iPod Touch owners to organise and view their pictures and images easily.
A spokesperson for Apple said: "You can browse with simple pinch, swipe and flick gestures and even view your friends' albums, no matter where you are".
Extending the touchscreen interface into imaging with some advanced controls will certainly appeal to fans of the iPhone.
Apple's MobileMe service is a cross-platform syncing system that allows PCs, Macs and iPhones owned by the same person to share a common bank of media and data.
As such, the new app allows iPhone owners to view pictures and also playback videos, with the option to download them directly to the iPhone's internal storage for access later.
MobileMe also adds in the ability to send emails to friends containing images or links and you can post your entire collection to a friend for their own perusal if you really need to.
Subscribers to the MobileMe service can download the new app free of charge from the App Store.
