The sequel to casual gaming developer PopCap's immensely popular Plants vs Zombies is possibly heading to the iPhone, with an August release date hinted in an enticing bit of publicity.
In an invitation sent via email, PopCap requested the presence of the media at a venue in San Francisco, with the event set to take place on the 2nd of August.
The famously cartoony zombie hand that became an iconic image after the launch of the original Plants vs Zombies was used in the invitation, leading some to believe that some news relating to this series will be announced very soon.
The original iPhone edition of Plants vs Zombies was one of the first games to get updated in the wake of iOS 4 and has also made a splash on Apple's iPad.
PopCap's John Vechey recently confirmed that Plants vs Zombies 2 is definitely in development, but said that it would not arrive until 2011.
However, the August 2nd event could prove that Mr Vechey was being deliberately misleading in order to turn attention away while development continues, according to Pocket Gamer.
