Fragging fans were treated to a sneak preview of the iPhone 4 edition of the forthcoming first person shooter Rage at this year's Quakecon event.
Addressing gamers at the expo, John Carmack revealed that Rage is set to arrive on the App Store in late 2010, which will mean that the iPhone will be getting it before any of the home consoles or the PC platform.
From a technical standpoint, the iPhone 4 version of Rage seems to be revolutionary. Not only will it run at a solid and essential 60 frames a second, but it will also integrate Id Software's inventive megatexture system, which makes it easier to provide greater environmental detail over large areas without taking up huge chunks of hard drive space.
The software development company currently has no plans to bring its game to rival smartphone platforms, leaving Android handset owners out in the cold for the time being.
