Siri’s failings are a source of embarrassment and would have driven notorious perfectionist CEO Steve Jobs to distraction, a former Apple staffer has claimed.
In a candid look at the state of Apple by the sober-shirted business types at Tech Fortune, an unnamed source previously in Cupertino’s employ slammed the heavily marketed voice control app.
He said: "People are embarrassed by Siri... Steve would have lost his mind over Siri.”
His damning assessment comes amid caustic criticism from the public and tech sites over Siri’s limited understanding of users’ voice commands and failure to serve up the correct answers to spoken queries.
Censure of the service has also focussed on the time it takes to respond, which Tech Fortune claims is the result of Apple’s servers and software being ill-equipped for the task in hand.
Siri's perceived flaws have prompted a series of lawsuits in the US alleging that celeb-studded TV spots touting Siri’s capabilities are misleading.
In the UK, the service has also attracted censure over a lack of support for local businesses, which severely hampered its usefulness for conducting online searches.
