A concept design for the next iPhone complete with Samsung Galaxy S4-style wireless charging and a Sony Xperia Zesque waterproof exterior has surfaced online, giving us a glimpse of what the handset might look like in alternate universe.
A video created by designers Uygar Kaya and Ran Avni shows a thinner handset with a handsome, rather angular design and an edge-to-edge 4.5-inch screen that firmly places it in phablet territory.
An LED notification light that illuminates an area below the phone to draw your attention to important missives more effectively is also on board, as are front-facing stereo speakers and a 13 megapixel camera.
But it’s the inclusion of wireless charging and a waterproof shell that are perhaps most intriguing. Although it’s not clear how the latter is made possible, we’re guessing it probably involves the water-resistant coating that Apple was rumoured to be developing last year.
How realistic it is to expect any of these to make it on board the real iPhone 6 is something only Jonathan Ive and his team of hardware designers know. But until we find out for sure, we think we should at the very least be allowed to dream a little.
