Apple is working on the development of a larger, 12-inch iPad with one of its key Chinese suppliers, Quanta Computer. That’s according to China’s United Daily News, backing up a previous Wall Street Journal story about a big screen version of the best-selling tablet.
Tellingly, Quanta is responsible for the MacBook Air’s production, rather than the iPad. That points to the device potentially having more power and being more professionally focused.
While other reports this summer have said that a larger iPad would pack a 13-inch display, today’s story claims the device will be a touch smaller.
Although Apple is due to reveal a pair of new iPads at a special event in the next month or so, it’s not believed that this amped up version will be on show. There is no rumoured release date and there’s a good chance this slate will wind up being shelved, rather than brought to market.
