iOS 7 out today, to update your iPhone and iPad

The latest version of Apple's mobile operating system is out today. So you'll be able to update your iPhone or iPad later on to give it a whole new look and feel.

Apple hasn't confirmed when exactly you'll be able to update your device, but going on past years it should be this evening sometime.

There's usually a huge rush at first, as everyone tries to upgrade at once, so you might be in for a bit of a wait.

iOS 7 is free to download. It'll work on an iPhone 4, 4S or 5, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini, and fifth generation iPod touch.

If you have an older device there's a chance there could be some compatibility issues, so it might be worth waiting to see which bugs come out before upgrading.

iOS 7 for iPhone (official)

iOS 7 is a lot more colourful than iOS 6, and has a ton of new features, such as a new unlock screen, a 3D view, better multi-tasking, and much more.

It marks a shift from Apple's skeuomorphic design, which rendered digital versions of real-world textures like leather and wood.

Apple will also introduce two new iPhones this week: the iPhone 5s, which comes with a fingerprint scanner to bolster security, and the 5c, which is available in a range of bright colours to match the new OS.
