O2 moves all customers to 4G-ready plans, revamps tariffs

O2 has rebranded its 3G smartphone contracts as '4G-ready' and has streamlined its tariffs, as the carrier signals the next stage in the rollout of faster mobile internet.

The move sees O2 do away with separate tariffs for 3G and 4G customers. The sole difference will be that subscribers signed up to 4G pay £5 per month more for their super-fast internet access.

Larger data allowances (those with 5GB and 8GB per month) across both 4G-ready and 4G plans will include free access to Premier League football highlights with Sun+ Goals.

Naturally, only customers with relatively new 4G-compatible phones will be able to access the faster service.

Last month, O2 announced it now offers 4G in Brighton and St Albans, with the result that its 4G network now takes in 160 towns and 15 cities across the UK. This purportedly equates to 31 per cent indoor coverage.
