iPhone 6: leaked case hints at 4.7” super-slim handset, w/ power button relocated

What's claimed to be a case for the next iPhone has surfaced online, sparking a wave of conjecture over Apple’s plans for its next smartphone challenger.

Sourced by Sonny Dickson and Unbox Therapy, who've given it the full video treatment, the positively luminous pink case is revealed to be substantially longer than the current-gen iPhone, adding weight to rumours that a handset with a 4.7-inch screen is in the offing this time around.

The iPhone 5S features a four-inch screen that can make it seem undersized next to the Android phablet competition, especially in a market that seems to spawn ever-larger smarties annually.

Enticingly, the case is also thinner than the 7.6mm iPhone 5S. And makes the likes of Samsung’s 8.95mm Galaxy S5, which also appears in the clip, look almost paunchy.

That all suggests that the handset could genuinely merit the sobriquet ‘iPhone Air’ that’s once again now being bandied around in the tech press.

Other than that, the positioning of the ports appears to confirm that the design will be largely unchanged.

However, one key difference is that the ‘on/off’ button appears to have been relocated from its traditional place at the top of the handset and now sits on the side.

This change was first suggested earlier this year by KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose at times uncannily accurate predictions also include the arrival of a 5.5-inch iPhone this year.

Recent supply-chain leaks suggest the larger iPhone won’t tip up until months after its more compact running mate. The staggered release has been variously, but inconclusively, attributed to battery issues and screen manufacturing problems.
