Retailers can start to clear shelf space for the iPhone 6 soon, amid reports that the handset is about to enter mass production to be ready for release next month.

According to sources inside the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou cited by industry analyst Xiang Ligang, the handset is now in what industry types call the ‘PVT’ stage.

We won’t try to blind you with our deployment of telecoms-sector lingo. All you need to know is that this means that it has only to pass through this phase before factories can start churning out market-ready handsets en masse.

Interestingly, Ligang’s claims, which were first picked up by GforGames, also reveal that there are no production problems with the iPhone 6 that might jeapordise a September due date.

By which we can take it as read that the screen issues that purportedly hampered manufacture of the 5.5-inch edition of the iPhone 6 have been overcome.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 6 on September 9th. Rumoured features include a more rounded design with rethought and repositioned buttons, a more powerful processor and a longer-life battery.
