Nintendo has confirmed that it is bringing its iconic Mario Kart to smartphones, revealing plans for an iPhone and Android version of the classic arcade racer.
Mario Kart Tour will be released by March 2019 and will join smash hit titles such as Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing, as well as the long awaited mobile version of Zelda.
No other details have been unveiled, but we think it's likely that the mobile version of one of Nintendo’s greatest creations will feature classic tracks from earlier versions of the game.
It remains to be seen whether Nintendo will offer users a basic version for free and then charge them for the full game.
This approach saw it smash App Store download records on the iPhone, but left consumers fuming at what was perceived to be a high price of £7.99.
For years Nintendo baulked at the idea of offering its games on mobile, but has become a key player after it became apparent that sales of its handheld DS consoles were being cannibalised by iPhones and Android devices.
