Apple is nudging customers to upgrade their phones with a notification

iPhone XS vs XR unboxed

Apple is sending customers notifications to persuade them to upgrade their iPhones. The message is being sent out to users signed up to the iPhone Upgrade Program, which lets you spread the cost of your phone over multiple months, rather than paying for it upfront.

Apple is hoping eligible customers will upgrade in time for Christmas.

The notification reads: “Your new iPhone is ready. Choose iPhone XR or iPhone XS and speed through your upgrade today with the Upgrade Program.”

Numerous reports have said that the smartphone market is slowing down globally. Apple recently reported a modest increase in iPhone sales, though its services (like the App Store and Apple Music) is bringing in an increasing proportion of the firm’s revenue.

Users signing up to the iPhone Upgrade Program are eligible for an upgrade after 11 months, as opposed to most phone contracts which run for 24 or 36.

Some users have complained that this notification is unsolicited, though presumably by signing up to the scheme you have signalled your intent to buy a new iPhone.
